Instructions and Help about Notice of appearance nj family court

Music, my name is Jim McKeon, and today we're going to talk about what a notice of appearance is. Okay, so you may be involved in some sort of lawsuit filed in small claims court or maybe you've been sued, perhaps you hit someone in a car accident, or you may have been arrested. Somehow, you are involved in the court system. You go hire an attorney, and they will file what is called a notice of appearance. Now, what is that document? It's nothing earth-shattering. Basically, it says, "comes now the defendant or the party by and through counsel and gives notice that so-and-so is representing me at this time and herein the case." Basically, this document gives the judge and the courts, as well as any other parties, notice that someone is now no longer unrepresented but they now have an attorney representing them. This is important because judges and courts always want to know who to send the mail to, notices of hearings, and they will send all documents now to the attorney instead of the unrepresented party. Also, it gives the court information about who's going to be handling the case and whether they can go forward. The other party now knows not to contact this person but to contact the attorney. But that's a notice of appearance. You may have heard that term mentioned. Nothing earth-shattering. It's basically telling the court, "Hey, there's an attorney involved now. Contact them instead of the party." You can find out more about this legal issue and other legal issues by going to my website attorney-Knoxville.com. You can also view my other YouTube videos.
